“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
Margaret Mead, Cultural Anthropologist

This strategic conference/workshop is to review the drug prevention, treatment and care in Northern Nigeria. The conference will also focus on building strategic synergies with the drug demand reduction directorate of NDLEA, UNODC, Northern Governors Forum, Northern Governors Wives Forum, Northern Traditional Rulers Council, Religious Leaders, Business Communities and civil society organizations working on anti-drug abuse in Northern Nigeria. The convening is also aimed at establishing a collaborative platform between NDLEA’s drug demand reduction directorate and stakeholders to support and complement the work of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and UNODC on war against illicit drug trafficking and substance abuse in the region. Additionally, the conference focuses on youth sensitization through the mobilization of 200,000 young people from 19 Northern States and Abuja to serve as War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) volunteers, an initiative of NDLEA launched by President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR on 26th June, 2021 at Presidential Villa aimed at engaging citizens to take ownership in the fight against illicit drug trafficking and substance abuse in Nigeria.

This conference is being convened to further review lessons learnt, identify challenges and advance recommendations evolving from the actors in drug prevention, treatment and care. It is important to note that the conference is designed to provide an opportunity to enhance youth capacity for evidence-based drug prevention activities in line with global best practices and acceptable standards (UNODC STANDARD). Strategically, it is intended that the conference will lay a solid foundation for both stakeholders and youth with required knowledge on evidence base drug prevention as well as translate into drug free life amongst the general population.

For the past four years, Triumphant Youth Foundation (TYF) has championed the largest anti-drug abuse conference in Northern Nigeria by spearheading one of the foremost platforms for young leaders, strategic influencers and stakeholders – the Drug-Free Arewa Movement (DFAM). To tackle society’s greatest challenges (drug/substance abuse) and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals 3.5 for a better Nigeria, it is imperative that we engage the talent and drive of the Nigeria’s largest demography the youth, as Drug-Free Arewa Movement has strived to do since its foundation.
